Brief History

Faculty of Cultural Sciences was initiated through the Program of Language and Literature on 1986 with the Decree of the rector of Universitas Brawijaya no. 026/SK/1986. On 1995, English Diploma III Program was opened through Universitas Brawijaya Rector Decree no. 044/SK/1995. On 2000/2001, S1 English Literature Program was opened through the Decree of Directorate General of Higher Education of the Department of National Education, No 488/DIKTI/Kep/1999 dated December 17 1999. Based on the UB Rector's decree no.027/SK/2002 Diploma I French, Tionghoa and Diploma III of Arab and Japan were opened. The Diploma I of Japanese language was then promoted into Diploma III of Japanese and french on 2002 by UB Rector's decree no 075/SK/2002. S1 Japanese Literature Program was opened on 2007 based on the Decree of the Directorate General of Higher Education No 1504/D/T/2007, dated June 22, 2007. French Language and Literature S1 Program was opened on 2008/2009 academic year. The Faculty of Cultural Sciences currently has one department, the Department of Language and Literature, with three study programs:

  1. English Literature Study Program;
  2. Japanese Literature Study Program, and 
  3. French Language and Literature.

Faculty of Cultural Sciences, as the youngest faculty in UB, was inaugurated through the decree of UB Rector No : 0279A/SK/2009.
